    higher Multiplier vs higher fsb

im doing some OCing and i cant get past the 2600mhz barrier on my 3500+
i have PC4000 and i was wondering if its better getting 2,6ghz with 11x236mhz or 10x260mhz?

also if my memory runs at CL2.5 @ 500mhz will i need to up it to 3?

    thnx

It is better to have a higher fsb, as this is the speed that the cpu "talks" with the rest of the puter.

Upping the multiplier will only speed up your cpu, upping the fsb will speed up your entire system.

unless you can up the FSB an entire divider (i.e. from 133 to 166, or 166 to 200) its generally safer to OC the multiplier though (that way you aren't stressing the rest of the comp unnecessarily).

Higher FSB is definitelly better than higher multi. Increasing the multi doesn't do anything except raise the CPU freq. while FSB will speed up RAM bandwidth which will speed up everything, so if you can run 10x260 I would do it

im on 10x260mhz now... not only did i notice better performance then with a higher multi.. but the temps sky rocketed too :P
im running at 41C LOAD with cold winter air pumped into my system :]

How did u get ur multi unlocked?
what core is ur 3500+ using?
Would a 3000+ or 3200+ winchester be able to reach them speeds with proper cooling?

i dont see why a winchester of those speeds couldnt reach that.... it would just need some major cooling.. correct me if im wrong but dont winchesters run really cool compared to the others?

a 3500+ has a 12 multi stock, and he is running 10, all AMD 64s can have their multi downlocked. I belive he is running a winnie core I was able to reach 10x260MHz with my s754 3000+ Newcastle

Yes, but any CPU running 260MHz FSB is bound to produce some major heat.

Btw, what HSF are you using?

    @ 2.6GHz

That's pretty darn impressive, we all know that silent boosts do not give the best peformance, but even though they do not, I am impressed with those temps
