My mistake. Anyways, I have an Asus A7V600. Should I get a 3000+ and a 6600GT, and get some more ram, instead of replacing it with a new PC? It should be fine with my Antec Smart Power 350, as I have a 40 GB HDD and 2 opticals. Should I replace the case, as it is a Solution SLK1650? Or, should I simply mod it?
And, I don't plan to oc, so should I go to a Sempron or a 2800+ Athlon?

A 6600GT does not run well on a 350W PSU, I would say it would be pretty risky, and if you want to upgrade, then get a Sempron, but you're a gamer, and they're not really gamer CPUs, I would recommend a new A64 system.

You can't say that the 2600+ is a better CPU because it MIGHT OC past 3200+ speeds, I'm not saying it cannot, I'm saying it's a risk that involves luck and a little bit of extra $$$ I have RMA'd the CPU once and I've gotten the same results which leads me to the conclusion that my mobo absolutely sucks at OCing. | I've yet to come accross a mobile cpu that didn't get to atleast 3200+... Most will share that same expierence, proven by the dozens of reviews on newegg for the mobile CPU. So I wouldn't say it takes luck to get to 3200+ speeds. I'd say you've got bad luck, or just unfortunate if you dont. If you want to go higher than 3200+, then luck may start to play a slight factor.
As far as cooling. No additional cooling is needed for a mobile to reach 3200+ than is needed for a stock 3200+. In most cases it should actually run cooler at 3200+ than a non mobile 3200+ would. When you start going significantly past 3200+ speeds, then you might want better cooling, but the same is true for a regular 3200+. So cooling costs are not a factor when comparing these two CPU's at the same speed. And since the 3200+ costs more to begin with, the mobile solution starts to look even more attractive.
We can go back and forth all day, but it doesn't matter becuase one thing you did say is indeed true and cannot be argued with, and thats the fact that the 3200+ was already purchased prior to my first post. |

I'm running the XP 3200+ with a GB Kingston Hyper X PC-3200 and an ATI Radeon 9800 XT (a system very comparable to the one your building) and I can run all the latest games at highest resolutions with no problems what so ever.
I've even burned a dvd while ripping another one with dvdshink and playing CS:Source on high res all at the same time and had no problems at all.
Very stable CPU, glad your wife let you go with it.
Enjoy.

You do have a very good gaming rig, but the fact is that you cannot play ALL the newest games on the highest resolution (FC, D3, etc). |

Enjoy. | Thanks!!! I can't wait until the 2x512mb sticks of dual channel 400MHz ram come in tomorrow.
What PSU do you have? I've got the Cooler Master True Power 350 right now...think I should upgrade?
My temps are in the 40's at max cpu and I've got 4 case fans in an all aluminum case...so far no probs. |

16A should be sufficient, maybe not for significant OCing, but it should be more than sufficient for regular use |

No OCing here...why would I want to with my current specs? I don't OC just to OC...and I'm not one of those FPS maniacs either.
I might add that I'm using the stock cooler, but I replaced the thermal pad with ArcticSilver5 (applied correctly, not just slapped on).
Thanks nwo.
