Hi.
I've got my system up and running with this motherboard. Abit NF7-S
Which CPU should I order? I'm replacing the current Athlon 900MHz ASAP! Athlon XP Series on newegg (I sorted them by votes)
Which of those do you think I should order? I will NOT be OCing at all. This will be a gaming computer and I've got a 6600 GT installed and will be buying new memory soon as well.
Or do you think I should get something other than an XP chip?
Thanks in advance,
Mike |

I looked at all the CPU's there and for price/performance, IMO go with the 3000+ - OEM.
But...If you can go with a Athlon 64, then definitely go with that.
This will end up costing you $207.
Going with a decent A64 3000+ and a board would cost you approx. $220. Not much of a difference in price, but performance, definitely. MoBo CPU

This is going to be a gaming computer?? I would strongly recommend going with an Athlon 64. It would be so much better, because at lower resolutions the computer relies more on the CPU. So your performance would be so much better. However, if you do go Athlon 64, I don't know whether to recommend Socket 754 or 939. It depends on your budget. MSI has a Socket 754 w/ PCI-E and a 939. However, you need to wait awhile to get the 754 from Newegg. Here is the 939- http://www.newegg.com/app/viewproduc...130-491&DEPA=1
It's only $90, but it should be enough for you, because I plan to get it!
For the CPU I recommend getting a 3000+ or a 3200+. Good balance of price to performance. (And the 3200+ can reach 3500+ speeds, if you wanted to ) |

2800+ seems to be the best bang for the buck, then the 3000+ (400MHz FSB) if you could flick the FSB to 400 (200) on the 2800+ we're talking some very nice speeds

I mean sure, they're not the best gaming CPUs, but since you already have that killer mobo, it would be nonsense to get a whole new A64 setup
Once the thing gets rusty you should be able to clock it up a little, I see that your mobo got a lot of positive reviews on OCing |

Me too, and you can bet that down the road...when the 3200+ is too old to be on newegg, I'll push it to the limits. You're right about the mobo reviews, OCing ability is quite good! |
