| Help My ears are bleeding!
I can't stand it! I have this...
It's so loud! I can't stand it!
I netmeet with my b/f and he complains about it!
I can hear it in my bedroom when the door to the den is closed.
I guess my 5.00 fan from the junk box at the computer store wasn't that good of a deal!
So anyway I've decided to get a new heatsink fan... I don't want anything fancy it's just going on a Duron 950 that's a cow..
I want whisper quiet..
I'm going to get some case fans too while I'm at it..
Any suggestions for a quiet dependable fan?? |

Hi Surreal ..
The HS that you have is great .. i once forgot to plug the HS fan and booted an OCed XP1600+ (148FSB), and it booted to windows and kept steady untill i started UD then it crashed ..
So if you use around 4500rpm with that HS it will perform great to keep that Duron stable ...
You are not OCing, right?..
Anyway, i have SUNON 80mm fan, and it is soundless coparing to the delta screamer ...
Regards |

The odds are that your $5 fan from the junk box isn't a POS, but rather its one of the 60mm Delta screamers. My guess is someone bought a heatsink with that fan on it or that fan by itself, couldn't stand it and threw it in the junk box. You could always go buy a new 60mm fan and save some money. Or, you could buy a fan control device that allows you to adjust the speed of the fan as well as its noise level. Plycon sells a single-device fan bus that allows you to adjust the voltage/speed of a fan using a rheostat ( http://www.plycon.com/fancntrl.htm ). At only $6.99, you'll save some $ and won't have to deal with pulling the HSF off. |

Try one of the Volcano 7's. It has a 80mm fan that cruises along nice and quiet like. (And they're cheap too!) |

Yeah, after 9 months I couldn't stand the FOP-38 on my Athlon anymore so, a few months ago, I went to Newegg and got a Volcanoe II HSF which was recommended to me by a friend. It's nice and quiet and actually keeps my comp quite cool. I don't know if I'd recommend it for much OC'ing though.
Can't beat the $12.00 including shipping price, either. I don't know if they're still selling there, but if you're proc is the correct spec for this HSF, I can definitely recommend it.
I'm semi-sane again.
For the RPM, if you can't find the specs online for that fan, download Motherboard Monitor Reports your temps, voltages and fan RPMs/ |

Swap it to 7v and see if that helps---OR I have a new 60mm Silencer I can donate...or buy a 60-80mm adapter and a Silencer in 80mm---depends on how much you wanna put into it for peace and quiet...
The 7v trick---

Its a Sunon fan---thats silent---aka Sunon Silencer...
Sorry the 7v trick link dont wanna work no more---ya know how that is---try this: http://www.cpemma.fsnet.co.uk/7volt.html
The WBK is a great sink---just slow down the fan or add a quieter one to it...
Try the 7V trick first, unless you got $$$ to blow---
