Dell Dimension 4700 Memory Upgrade

Hi There,

OK, I'm new here. Just got a new computer and before I settle in with it I thought I should go ahead and upgrade the memory. I bought it used. It has 512mb memory and a 915G chipset. Any idea what memory I should use and whats all this talk about low latency and 533mhz and 400mhz stuff? Does anybody know what type will fit like 184 pin or something? I'm new to all this stuff but I want a good computer so I thought I'd check with you guys...

Also, It has a Radeon x300 card in it with 128mb. Is this a good card or should I think about upgrading this as well? I want to play games and get some flight sims. If this isn't a good computer for this, let me know, the guy I bought it from wants it back...Ha! Thanks to all?

Evan...

First, what is the speed of the processor?

Is the Dell still under warranty? You may have to buy memory from Dell to not void the warranty. Or you could go to www.curcial.com and look at memory there. It is usually a little more pricy than say www.newegg.com for buying memory but you are sure to get compatible memory. Plus crucial is reliable memory.

It also looks like you may have a X300SE in there. The SE edition of ATI cards are known to be cut down quite a bit. If you want to do some serious gaming, go for a X700 or X800 series card with 256MB of RAM. That is to run games like Doom3 and HL2 at high quality settings. Depends on what your budget is.

After those upgrades, you will have a nice gaming system there.
