dust it(your whole computer and mainly your heatsink/fan)
or put it in a freezer
well is it really that hot
also if your room or house is really hot then blowing hot air on it won't help much
a good dusting can help A LOTLast edited by mateo leet-o; June 9th, 2005 at 08:17 PM.

Wow, what do you have in there that you can't cool with a 14in fan?

How long has your pc had these temps. Is it a new build? Is there thermal paste on the cpu? What kind of heatsink and fan do you have?

What cpu do you have? I think I would invest in a new heatsink and fan and use a thin layer of Artic Silver 5 on the cpu.

You can get AS5 at any computer store. I would also look into getting a new HS/F.
Something like a Vantec Aeroflo. Your temps are way too high. I built a system last week using a P2.4 and it idles at 102° F and didn't get much over 118° F under load and this is with the stock HS/F.
I think first though I would just try the AS5. Remove the old paste with 90% alcohol, wipe it clean with a lint free cloth, then apply a thin layer to the cpu.

Well sounds like something ain't right, I had a 2.4 a while ago but I used the stock heatsink and it cooled it just fine... anyway try the as and see what happends if the temps go down only a little that is a good first step. I would recommend a good heatsink such as a zalman heastsink(if it fits) or a thermaltake polo one I have have and keeps my p4 E 3.0ghz 48 load and 41 idle.

Maybe your heatsink wasn't on right. Loose heatsink=high temps.

How many case fans do you have? You should have at least 2. One pulling air in at the bottom front and one blowing air out in the top back. This is not your immediate problem though since you have these temps with a 14" fan blowing on the cpu.

June 10th, 2005, 06:40 PM #17Since you have a big fan blowing on it mae sure that the case fans are all blowing out, otherwise your big fan would blow in and your case4 fans would blow in, and the air would not circulate. That could be why the temps are so high.

Congrats on your 100th post!
Anyways, take off your heatsink and put Artic Silver 5 on it. And, maybe your heatsink wasn't on right.

you can go straight to sp3 from a clean install. No need to install the other service packs
