Hey guys.....I'm looking at laptops and i'm trying to find out how the athlon 64 3200+ and 3500+ compare against a pentium m 2.0 ghz Any insight on the advantages and disadvantages of each would be great...i'm looking for a long life but still a decent work horse thanks guys! (ps...i'm going to be using it for a lot of things...compiling code, playing games, internet browsing.....everything... lol. Maybe even some video..so yea) |

Personally I would go with a Pentium M because of their performance and low heat consumption. Intel should just get rid of P4's because the M's can destroy them in performace, while altogether taking up much much less power.

unless you're going for a huge desktop replacement (aka you want any portability), definately go with the pentium-M.
My 2nd choice would be a mobile athlon 64... but few models have them, and they are generally on the DTR category as well. Whatever you do dont get a desktop p4, crappy battery life and they run really hot in laptops.
The athlons will probably beat out the 2.0 p-m in raw processing power though, but I haven't read anything comparing the new alivisio/sonoma based laptops vs. athlon 64 laptops. Google is your friend I guess. |

Pentium M....no contest
they are sweet a** processors. They are some of the most advanced cpus out there. I wouldn't get anything else. The athlon 64 notebooks are good too...but I would only use them for desktop replacement. They won't give good battery life as compared with the pentium-m series.
I hate to side with intel

everyone keeps saying that pentium m has better battery life....like if everything else was the same...would the pentium m last like twice as long....or like 1.5 times that of the athlon 64 or like how much better....just saying it'll last longer could be like 1.1 x the battery life or like 5x the battery life...... just trying to get the best laptop for me |
