Just looking for advice on a system i'm building at the mo. This is what i've got to put together.
- Celeron D320 2.4GHz
- 512Mb DDR3200
- 256Mb DDR2100
- GeForce Ti4200 128Mb
- EPoX 4SG-M8I 800MHz Mobo
I got all this off a mate and decided to play around and see how much I could get out of it.
I've OC'd the celeron to 2.88GHz and i'm planning on overclocking the graphics card as well.
My main question is: Is it better to just use the 512Mb stick on its own or to use both and have 768Mb of RAM running at a slower speed?
I'm also wondering how far I should push the GeForce? The standard is 225/445 but i've heard of some people running this card as high as 320/490. If anyone has oc'd this card, i'd like to know what kind of speeds they have got.
And my last question: Is it possible to change the multiplier on this cpu? Can't seem to do it in the BIOS. |

You I would stick witht he 768mb rather than the 512 sticks. Intel locks the multplier on the procs. You can only OC through the FSB.

| What does the locked multiplier have to do with this?? You state the right fact, but draw the wrong conclusion.
If he's gonna overclock, then I'd sure as hell leave out the PC2100 stick.
That stick would make all the ram run @ PC2100 speed and it would seriously limit his overclocking possibilities.
And the difference between 512 and 768 is almost not noticable, and when you compare 512 @ DDR400 with 768 @ DDR266, well, I don't have to spell it out I think, but I will anyway.
You'll loose major bandwidth if you do that.

The multiplier question is unrelated to the ram question. It was just something I wanted to know. |

No, that's not what I meant.
I didn't see your question on the multiplier in your 1st post.
That's why I thought what does the multiplier have to do with this when Friedchicken stated the multiplier was locked.
My bad people, I really need to learn and finish reading the entire post. |

IMO... If you want to OC, then you should remove the PC2100 stick. However I would not be content with 512MB of ram. I would most definatly add another 512 of PC3200. Depending on what you do, there could be a VERY significant performance difference between 512MB and a full gig of ram. ESPECIALLY if you're going to be gaming. You will also get the added advantage of running the memory in dual channel for an added performance gain.
