So... I will be upgrading my XP2600 system soon and I was looking at TWO CPU's that would be in my price range.
1. AMD Athlon 64 3700+ San Diego
2. AMD Athlon 64 3500+ Venice
Now, the 3500 has 512mb cache, but it's also around $50 less expensive.
I do a LOT of gaming, and I want to get what will be best.
Is there THAT much difference in this? Or would the $50 be best put somewhere else on the system?
Also, what speed of RAM should I get? PC3200? Or something else?
I don't plan on overclocking whatsoever, regardless of what anyone tells me.
I'm kinda out of the loop on this whole upgrading business.  |

Definately go with the 3700+ san diego, the extra cache will help you out, even if you don't notice it "al lot" in todays games over the 3500, it is worth it.
If you aren't overclocking, get some good timings pc3200, and you will be all set.

|  well i have Sempron 3000 i want to know if AMD has deveoped a Athlon 4000+ for the socket 754. oh yeah i had overclocked it to 3.6 ghz! but it would not stabilize. i then clocked it down to 2.8ghz. but if i had a choice i would definetly go with 3700+!!! | |

no iam not lying buty it would not stabilize it would not boot up buyt in my bios my cpu displayed 3.6ghz i used the saus k8n4-e deluxe motherboard. | |

I went to the overclocking option in the advanced cpu configirations and i clocked the cpu frequency every 10 mhz until i decied to boost it up to 400mhz frequency i saved the settings and exited the bios my computer restarted and pushed "del" to enter the bios setting i went to the cpu options and it displayed 3600mhz but when i tried to boot up windows i couldnt get past the ASUS logo screen. | |

surprising my cpu temperature remained at 30 degrees and motherboard remained at 28 degrees i felt the heatsink and it was a little warm i clocked it back to default but when i come from school iam going to try to stabilize it at 3.0ghz | |
