Is it worth the price to build a Xeon PC to overclock? |

No, not when you can buy a stock speed A64 that will more than likely outperform the overclocked xeon at the same price.
And I'd have to ask why you'd want to? |

I was curious as to why Xeon CPU's arre sooo expensive. And I figured if it's meant to be used in a server....oughta rock in a PC... |

Server processors have extra features such as data integrity checking (ECC) and the ability to run multiple processors in one system. That's why they are so expensive. |

Also, how long they last until core failure, which in my life i have never had a cpu do this. I still have an old P3 550mhz running for fun, and my friend has an old p2 333mhz running at his house, he says he doesnt like to pay ltos of money for computers lol(yes hes a dork, i understand the money thing, but amd is so cheap) I built a system for my parents back in 2003, the pc was dusty as hell was running at around 71C at idle(athlon xp 2400) for like 5 months, cleaned it out and it was fine(around 38idle to 45C), but even at that temp it was still not crashing or anything. I think maybe if a processor runs at 100% all the time, like some servers do, could mean that their Core failure needs to be extended. Anyways thats my shiest. |

Not to mention - can you even OC Xeons? Never looked myself.
But even if you can - I wouldn't do it. You can fry an egg on the heatsink of Intel's procs running at stock speeds so I sure wouldn't want to be increasing the thermal output even further... |
