Like I said, I never said intel was better, I MUCH prefer AMD over Intel. I'd rather have a 3700+ over a 3.4GHz P4. In fact, the PC i'm typing this on just happens to be a 3700+... It seems my comments have been misinterprited to mean that the 3.4 is better than the 3700+... Not so... I was merely answering the OP's question when asked which AMD CPU is about equal. I answered that question from a performance vewpoint.
If you're asking me to pick the "better" cpu with all things considered, i'd give the nod to the 3700+. It runs cooler, consumes less power and overclocks well... Sometimes us AMD fans tend to overrate the CPU's. I think its fair to say that a 3.4GHz cpu will outperform a 3400+ (which was originally suggested as being the equal cpu) the majority of the time. Do we really want and Intel convert to purchase a CPU that we hyped up too much only to find that it really isn't any faster then the Intel he replaced and regret the purchase? Or do we want him to think "wow, these AMD's sure are nice"?

However that is OEM. £20 from the retail X2 3800+!!!). Well, i have to admit you were right in some ways, but then i always consider price lol. The mods don't want WWIII aparently though

Price/performance AMD has got them crushed. ComputerShopper Magazine March 2006 they did a dual core face-off. AMD crushes intel in just about every category. In the price/performance chart, they have the $400 x2 4200+ matched with the 1000$ EE840. So id say AMD is cheaper. |

Also keep an eye out for the next intel CPU's, because in a year a lot can happen with AMD's new socket and intel also trying to match AMD. In the end, it comes down to price/performance, in a years time, well, who knows!?! |
