intel pentium D vs intel core 2 duo
intel pentium D 940 LGA775 3.2ghz 800fsb 2x2MB cache
or
intel core 2 duo E6300 LGA775 1.86ghz 1066fsb 2MB cache
which one is better for performance and gaming?
also for overclocking...!

comparison go read it and decided what you think!
gotta love the opening paragraph!!
and here's an entire thread of discussion http://www.techimo.com/forum/t171342.htmlAs you will soon see, Intel's new Core 2 lineup has basically made all previous Intel processors worthless. The performance of the new Core 2 CPUs is so much greater, with much lower power consumption, that owners of NetBurst based processors may want to dust off the old drill bits and make some neat looking keychains.Last edited by RicheemxX; July 31st, 2006 at 04:22 AM.

Well i was told the extra 2Mb of cache doesnt make that much of a difference and if the 2.4 Ghz beats the fx62 in 90% of benchmarks i would say the e6300 then wouldnt be far behind and could prolly be OC'd to atleast 2.2-2.4 in which case it would be better than as good as if not a lil better then an fx62, in which case yes, yes its better than a 940.

I would go with the Core 2 Duo E6300 anyday over the Pentium D940.... There is no question the Core 2 Duo easily outperforms the Pentium D940.
Core 2 Duo CPu's are now out in force, and Motherboards are coming out now, that support them fully.Main Rig:
AMD A64 3500+ E4 (Manchester - One Core Disabled)
Back Up Rig:
Intel P4 2.8 ES (Engineering Sample)
Wifes Rig:
AMD Athlon XP2900+

August 2nd, 2006, 04:05 PM #15They've been available since the 27th of July. I've had my motherboard for about a week now. Just waiting for cpu availability from Newegg.

August 2nd, 2006, 10:14 PM #18I too am seeing that motherbaords are still much easier to find than the actual processors. Although I am not exaclty thrilled with the options sofar. AFIK, nothing that supports SLI yet.
