    MEMORY UPGRADE

    I have a dimension 4550- 4 cpu, 2.53ghz 512ram ddr sdram

when I go to on the web there are a few choices they give me,
    a 512 ram stick with pc2700 or pc 3200 also a DDR400 or DDR333

is there any big difference here and if so what? Which one should I be picking to upgrade my system with? Thanks folks.

Well, first off PC2700 is DDR333 and PC3200 is DDR400. You should see a performance improvement with the PC3200 memory. Are you looking to add more RAM to your system or replacing the current memory? If you are adding another 512MB module, you should match it to the speed of the one already in it.

I would get PC3200 regardless of what you have in there. As long as you don't get anything SLOWER than what is in there you'll be ok. If you get something that is faster, it will automatically run at the speed of the other stick.

I am looking to add another 512 to my cpu, it currently has 512 and I can go up to 1 full gig.

Go with PC3200 DDR400 ram then.

You can download "Everest Home Edition" and see what speed your current ram is. Im geussing its either pc2100 or pc2700. The downside is your new full 1GB memory will run at whatever speed your current 512mb stick runs at.

newegg.com is a good site to use. Corsair makes some nice cheap Value ram.
