| quick questions about C2D
im looking at prices on core 2 duo chips and i see one c2d e6700 4mb cache and 2.67ghz and another c2d e6400 with a 2mb cache and 2.13ghz clock. what is the difference between the 2 besides the obvious cache, clock and $350 price difference? is there noticeable performance differences between the 2? |

Exreaction talks sense this time, the E6600 is most definatly the badass this time around as it has the 4MB L2 (Sweet spot), as afore metioned, also regarding other input found on the net it clocks like a f!@ker from what i've read (don't know whether it's BS or not yet?)
Try not 2 cut ur self short on features like 4MB l2 ( U Cant clock 2 that)
If u have 4MB L2 ALREADY (on Conroe) then u can o'clock 2 high heaven with the right memory combo by all accounts lol
Cant wait 4 K8L (A bit of competition would not go a miss)

thanks for the great articles. i used to feel like i was pretty up to date with pc tech but then it seems that theres been a huge jump in the technology. yalls opinions really help out alot. i have decided to scratch the 6400 and go for the 6600. for the past 3 years i have been using a dell built p4 2.6ghz and have been pretty satisfied but when i run games i could never run them with all the options as they were meant to be enjoyed without suffering alot of slowdown. the times coming that i want to go for the self built performance machine that i have always wanted (within budget ) thanks again! |

I think 4GHz is a bit on the optimistic side. Might be able to get there, but I doubt it.

I wish I could afford one to try it.
Too bad buying a desktop no would be a complete waste of money for me(even though I have plenty). Since I am planning on moving to Tokyo next spring/summer. And I don't think a desktop would make the trip very well...
So I am probably getting a lappy next spring before I move(but you can't OC those safely. ). |
