    ddr2 questions

if you upgrade the speed in your memory will you notice a differnece?

    ex. ddr 333 to ddr2 533

    or...

    ex. ddr2 533 to ddr2 800

in thoose examples will i notice any difference in performance if the amount of ram stays the same...lets jus say 1gb for a example!
    thanks

The two types of ram are not interchangeable. You cannot put DDR2 into a motherboard made for DDR.

There should be a noticable difference between ddr2 533 and DDR2 800. Let's check the benchmarks shall we?

There you go, differences up to 15 FPS to as low as 5 FPS. But the benchmarks agree, you do not want to buy DDR2 400 or 533. those are not even as good as ddr400.

On the contrary, there are motherboards out there that take both DDR & DDR2 RAM. But that depends on the motherboard you have. Most do not have slots for both types.

i do have a motherboard that has slots for both, as of now i only have ddr memory but i was trying to decided if it was worth it upgradeing to ddr2 533. i was wondering why do you think ddr2 533 is such poor quality?

DDR2 has higher latency, which can especially hurt gaming performance. It's probably not worthwhile to upgrade to DDR2 unless you go with DDR2-800.

Unless you've got a lot of cash laying around that you're dying to spend, I wouldnt bother upgrading. Save it for a new system or video card in the future. A new set of 1 or 2GB of DDR2 800 is really expensive for the performance gain you'd be getting.
