High-Density RAM
I ask this question though I feel I already know the answer (I searched the forums):
Will high density RAM work with an eMachines 1840? (Intel 845GL Chipset)?
I bought the RAM and it doesn't seem to work properly, though I hope that it may be something I could fix...
Thank you all (Long time no see!)D'oh!

what are some more specs on the ram? speeds and such?

I am fairly certian there are no intel chipsets that work with high density ram...only certian ones from via and sis
Hey who turned sigs on?

"High density" is an unfortunate misnomer. Both "high density" and "low density" 1GB RAM use (in the strict sense) exactly the same density technology (512Mbits per chip). They are both double sided, using 8 chips per side. The only difference is in how each chip is organized. In so-called high density memory, each chip is organized as 128MbX4b. In standard (ie. low density) memory, each chip is organized as 64Mbx8b.
Headband is correct. Only certain VIA and SIS chipset support high density 1GB memory. Even having the correct chipset is no guarantee. Some manufacturers (Asus is one) will program their mobo to reject high density RAM, even if the chipset supports it.
There is no harm in trying high density memory. Your computer either won't boot, or it will only sense half of the RAM.

In that case, I stand corrected. My appoligies to headband.

Why does it not work? What makes it so incompatible? And why would Asus design a motherboard to reject something on purpose?

Well if what they're saying is true, and it seems to be, it is not asus that is designing the baord that way. It is the actual chipset that isn't accepting it, so any manufacturer would have that problem with that particualr chipset, not just ASUS.

Yes, they also said intel chipsets don't support HD ram regardless, so weather or not the board is setup to reject it, the chipset wouldn't support it anyway. As far as the reason for it, I do not know.

I'm taking my information from various forums. Here's one post:

High density memory is non standard so if Asus doesn't want to support it, you can't blame them.

here's a couple of good links to check out in relation to the original posters question. First 2 are probably the best. Good luck

well i made the error of geting high density DDR ram
and what happen was only half of the ram show up on my compter, even after i flash the BIOS witha new update
a 1 GB of ram only show up as 512 MB- even when my compter had a better chance of use the ram then other, as it use a gigabyte MOBO andf an AMD cpu
well a lot that did me any was
