| Which CPU will give me better performance?
Hi guys,
I am thinking about buying one of these two laptops. Can you tell me which will handle multiple applications better? The key difference I see is Centrino M Vs. Duo.
Here are the details:
Laptop1:
Dell Small Business has a a big $539 off the thin and light 3.8lb Latitude D410 Centrino Notebook Pentium M 740 1.73Ghz, 12in Screen, 1GB/80GB, CD, 802.11g, 3yr warranty, XP, now $799 with Coupon
Laptop2:
Tech4less has the refurbished 5.6lb Lenovo 3000 N100 - Intel Core Duo T2300E 1.6 GHz notebook 512MB/80GB, DVD Writer, XP Home, 15.4 inch Ultra-bright WXGA Widescreen on sale for $619.19.
You will notice the Lenovo has Duo and the Centrino M does not mention that.
Please let me know your thoughts. I will be running applications like IE, Firefox, Spreadsheet, Word, Outlook and ICQ, MSN and AIM around the clock.
Thank you so much! |

I would definetely get number 2, cause:
1: it has dualcore, and is per core only 113Mhz slower
2: it has a bigger screen
3: it has a dvd writer instead of a cd player
4: it is cheaper then the dell one
5: refurbished systems are always better checked then new ones.
And that it has less ram, doesn't matter, you can get that 512Mb cheaper then the difference in price is between the 2.
If you have an XP Pro license, I'd install that on there, because of the dualcore, dunno if Home can fully support dualcore.

Well I don't necessarily agree with the refurbished part, but the 2nd laptop is definalty better and would be my choice. I just got a laptop a couple months ago with that same Core Duo processor and 1GB of ram and I'm very happy with it. Very responsive and the dual core really comes in handy.

Well, about the refurbished parts, I have worked at the quality department of several computer production companies, and there were HP, compaq and other brands built and all brands had their computers checked more thoroughly when it was a refurbished machine.
The new ones had a long endurance test as well, but not as extensively as the refurbished ones. |

I agree with getting the Core Duo laptop.
Very good point about XP Pro, Ultima. However, to be more specific, XP Pro has native support for multiprocessors, XP Home would require a dual-core patch. |
