| socket 940 chip fit AM2 board? single chip on dual chip board
I'm actually myself pretty sure of the answer to this one, being no, but I thought I'd put it out and ask you guys anyhow.
I'm trying to revive my old FX-51 box and as one would guess, I'm having trouble finding a board to accept socket 940. So far there's two board from brands I actually recognize, but they're both opteron server boards. So my question is, can I run a single chip on the dual chip board with no problems?
Also, I can get a hold of another fx-51 for free, so can I run two FX 51 on the same board? :
Thanks in advance~ |

if you have a dual socket 940 board then probably it will take the FX-51, but it won't take 2 of them.
The only FX cpu's that will run dual are the FX-70 to 74, Quadfather is what they call them. other then that, no way of running a dual FX setup

Here's a few boards you can look for Asus SK8V, Gigabyte K8NNXP-940, Asus SK8N, MSI K8T Master 2. If you go with one of the dual opteron boards make sure you check the manuf's site and see that it will run your fx-51. Also keep in mind you'll have to run registered memory!

Well, my main problem here is not really which board to get, it's the availability or said boards, which, so far, is not that good. any ideas on where to find some boards? I tried ebay and all they are is an MSI boar and an Asus board, but they're both dual proc boards. |

You can run any 940 socket board that will support the fx-51 even if its dual socket you just leave one socket empty thats fine. As for where to find one----uh good luck just keep searching around on google. |
