Do you have an Intel Core 2 processor then read this
Found it posted on another board and might be of interest to all Intel users especially owners of Core 2 Duo and Quad.

I've installed the patch and I can vouch it lowers cpu temps slightly and makes my XP system seem faster.
Well worth the download.
cheers

What exactly is the patch for?
& run the CPU at lower temps & make XP Seem faster? Lower than my already low 27C Idle temp (sometimes as low as 21C), 42-43C max under load temps? & make XP faster than it already is?
Its so nice to have The Inquirer even bother to mention exactly what it fixes
let alone M$'s site other than a vague description...

[google]microcode reliability update[/google] googling doesn't help show what it resolves but most of the info I read seems to point at this already being fixed by motherboard manufs. and newer bios updates
about all I can find is
While the implications of the issue are difficult to quantify, any of the following symptoms can occur:
The system may stop responding to keyboard or mouse input.
A system operating in a Microsoft Windows environment may generate a blue screen.
A system operating in a Linux environment may generate a kernel panic.Last edited by RicheemxX; June 29th, 2007 at 11:54 PM.

Should I install this patch? I have an e6420, but my temps and performance are fine and all. Would this slightly increase performance and lower temps in a way?

all of which can be caused by any number of other things in PC's, not even related to the specific CPU, so how do they even know that this fixes anything or is even related?
I'd say if your getting by fine right now with no problems, then the old saying "IF IT AIN'T BROKE, DON'T FIX IT" would apply. At least thats what I'm doing... should something "occur", I'm bookmarking the link anyways...

Yes I'm sure. I only installed the patch because I read on another board it helped those who installed it to drop a little in temp.
Before installing this patch I used to idle at 41-43 and now I idle at 37-39. I don't overclock but my system seems snappier with programs opening faster.
As to whether this will be the same for everyone, I don't know but it is for me.
cheers
BTW my cpu is a Core 2 Duo E6600
