| kickass cooler for OC'ed Q6600
I've been running an E6600 for a while and have just grabbed a new mobo and a shiny new Q6600 quad core CPU.
The stock cooler is kind of okay if I'm not doing anything much, but as soon as I start loading the processor up the temps get higher than I'd like. I'm overclocking it to just under 3.1Ghz (from the 2.4Hhz stock).
I did want to use my trusty Thermaltake Big Typhoon cooler than help the E6600 below 30C no matter what, but its silly motherboard bracket will short out the voltage regulators on the underside of the mobo, which I'm guessing probably wouldn't be a good thing.
I was hoping to use that or something very similar with downwards pointing fins to help keep the northbridge heatsink cool as its almost too hot to touch, as well as 'squirt' some air at the RAM.
Any ideas? Remember, the fins have to point downwards.
:edit:
FYI The big typhoon cooler is the old one that doesn't come with the push-pin LGA775 mounting system, but the annoying take-out-the-mainboard bracket system.

I've told you why I require a downwards pointing one. Sideways coolers simply don't provide enough cooling of surrounding components.
A 'regular' sideways cooler is NOT what I'm asking for help with. |

| Nice Looking Fan but........
if you read the comments about it being over the RAM surely you wouldn't be able to use it with anything chunky lke OCZ's Reaper or the Dominator range?

The blue orb II looks okay, except it'll probably hit the northbridge heatsink (its a big one, yet still gets hot). Do they cool well?
The Maxorb might have the same problem, and it the fan isn't really situated high enough to cool more than the first of my 4 sticks of RAM, the thermalright is a sideways cooler so thats out, however the new bigtyphoon with the push pin things is exactly what I'm looking for. I had no idea they'd re-released it, although the dinky little speed control knob looks totally stupid the connector it plugs into looks like it'll take a Tt temperature probe thing. I'll most probably use my own fan anyway though.
Thanks. |

as to the thermalrights... no, the XP 120 & SI 128's aren't the sideways coolers, their similar styles to the Big Typhoon, though not as tall.
but yeah, Tt remodeled/re-released the Typhoon VX last year I think? with the speed control knob, it does look kind of stupid, but not quite as much as the "newer" re-released mini Typhoon with the optional bracket to attach 2 60mm fans on two sides to (like wings sort of), to blow air on additional components. LOL |
