    Hey speedy

Download CPU-Z. Unzip it and run the cpuz.exe file. Goto the About tab and click the Registers Dump(.txt). Save the cpuz.txt file & post it here. That can help us research your PC. Here's examples...

I would geuss its an Intel Pentium 4 2.6GHz Socket 478 CPU with PC2100 or PC2700 memory.
Gaming performance relies heavily on the graphics processing unit.

Short answer for you: If you want a better gaming experience, save up and buy a whole new PC. Upgrading something as outdated as your PC would be a waste of money.

    Hey and Welcome to TechIMO!

Sadly your cpu and system are just too subpar to spend money on for gaming, unless you want to play really old games. Also, you are running a p4 2.4ghz not a 2.6ghz and are running the slowest DDR available, pc2100.

Best bet is to save up and build/buy a new pc.

Your mobo likely wouldn't fit many or possibly any CPUs from the last 3 or 4 years. You're definitely at the point where you just need to replace the whole thing. Now, if you want your computer to run like it's 5 years old and not 7, you could look around for some older components, such as a 6xxx series Nvidia GPU, a 3.06 (or similar, depends on what your mobo could handle) HT P4, and some more PC2100 DDR memory, but you'd be buying borderline obsolete components to keep a borderline obsolete computer running at 2003-2004 levels, instead of 2002 levels.

Bottom line, if you only plan on running games and other demanding programs from 4 or 5 years ago, you can afford to keep your computer running like it's 4 or 5 years old, but if you want to break into newer programs, you need a newer computer.

Yup, I agree with the other guys. If you want to upgrade your cpu you will also need a motherboard, ram, video, power supply upgrade. That's pretty much a new system.

Do you have an upgrade budget?

Have you ever heard of the term "Flogging a dead horse" if you have then this is effectively what you are wanting to do. Listen to the guys. A complete system overhaul is required for an effective gaming system for 2007. The best thing you can do is to post an upgrade budget.
