Yeah unfortunately with those intel boards your only option is going to be a software based overclock. But IMO there isn't much reason to OC that chip, it screams as is and there really won't be much gains in the way of real world performance.

I overclocked mine with my Asus board, apprantly the board is designed for extreme overclocking, but I intentially didn't exceed more than about 2.7 GHz.
It's running at it's normal performace of 2.4 now, there really isnt any need for it. Furthermore, when you overclock that chip, you are going to get some crazy idle temperatures, it scares me to think what the temperatures would be when the actual chip is being used fully. I also invested in a Zalman colling fan, still doesn't help...

HI there..
There is one way you can overclock your CPU. I personally have never tried it before, but I've read about on multiple sites.
It's a pin mod, where you draw a line between 2 pins on the processor itself, and it changes the FSB from 1066Mhz to 1333Mhz.
I've seen a couple of guys online get Dell servers with the Q6600, and pin mod them, with success.
I don't know how far your willing to go for a overclock, but this is just about the only way with a motherboard with no overclock settings. Article about the pin mod. And in post #10, the guy confirms it works. |

| DG33TL Overclocking ability 2007 Intel Retail Edge
Please look at the below link. I have done alot of research and thought that I would give this a go. http://www.ocforums.com/showthread.php?p=5425228
Below if the post that I left after did the mod.
Works like a charm. I have the 2007 Intel Bundle. Q6600 paired with a DG33TL Intel Motherboard. I know having had a few Intel motherboards that over clocking would be near impossible. I have tried other things that outers have mentioned like SestFSB. Did not work no matter what. To many Lockups and crashes. So I started to read about the BSEL mods that people had started working on. I have read they they have worked for some but not others because of there motherboards and BIOS revs. I thought that I would try the above post to put a small piece of tape over the mentioned pin. When first boot I thought it had done nothing as he Intel BIOS sas that it is still running at the stock 2.4GHz and had a fsb speed of 1066. I took the processor back out of the case and looked over the tape and it looked to have a very good dimple in the tape. I decided to added another piece to make sure there was no connection. BIOS still says the default. When I booted into Windows I noticed that it was moving along a little faster. I launched CPUz and speed is now around 3.0GHZ and the fsb is 1333MHz. I was very happy. This is a wonderful mod for someone that does not want to purchase a new overclockable motherboard. |

BTW: regarding extreme idle temps. I am running between 25-27C at idle. I have lapped the processor. It is not done to well. and I am still running the stock Intel processor Fan. |
