Good job ER
You should keep an eye on your temps ... the older athlons run pretty hot and hot weather in here already .. so take care ...

Funny you should mention that. I'm having to run with case off for now. Need to move insides to different case. The HSF is just about 3/4" from the power supply so not enough air flow. With the case on and watching a DVD, there is so much heat generated the box reboots about 3/4 way through the movie.
One thing I thought was odd, the BIOS is showing that it's a "Mobile Athlon". Strange I think.
Now it's at 1400 (12.5X112). I had it at 1500 (12.5X120). It would get to the "welcome" screen in XP then lock up. I pushed the v's up to 1.65, but want to move it to a machine with more fans for cooling. Do they even make a 1.5GHz Thunderbird? I didn't think so!
If/ when it's stable, I'll post a shot.

Okay, I got it up to 1.5GHz but can't keep it running stable. It'll get to XP, I can start WCPUID and open up Paint. After I copy the image in and go to do "Save as..." it locks up.
I'm sitting @ 1.425GHz now, but I want the 1.5GHz.
Am I correct in changing the VCore up to try to gain stability, and, does uping the I/O help as well?
I had them set @ 1.65 and 3.4 to get the 1.5GHz where it was.
Help is much appreciated! |

I was under the impression that the stock voltage for that processor was 1.75V anyways... probably won't hurt to put it up to at least that . |

Hmmm...odd, the "default" setting is 1.55vdc. I will bump it up to that and see what happens. Seems the higher the core the more stable anyway. |

Seems the higher the core the more stable anyway. | Be carefull... is it possible that you really have a "mobile cpu" and if so, did they run at lower vcores? The standard TBird runs at 1.75vcore default (my OC'ed one is at 1.80vcore). Also, remember, for a DC-powered device, the heat produced goes up by the square of the voltage e.g.,
overclocked heat (watts) = (stock heat output, watts)X(OC'd speed/stock speed)X(OC'd vcore/stock vcore)^2.
My 1.2gHz TBird running stock conditions puts out about 65 watts; with it overclocked to 1.4gHz at 1.8vcore, I'm putting out about 82.5 watts of heat. Just recommending to keep your cooling capacity in mind.

Got it running STABLE at 1.5GHz!!!
I used a Dremel and cut a couple of holes in the back under the PSU beside the connector back plane. Had two small fans from two old PS/2 PSU's, they worked great.
I'm going to borrow a digi cam from a buddy on Monday to post BIOS pics. (For those of you that think I could actually use Photoshop to alter my screen shot )
And yes jmichna, it is an Athlon Mobile 4. I've got the VCore sitting at 1.600 and left the I/O at 3.30 (default).
I will be putting it throgh it's paces to make sure it stays STABLE. |
