Core 2 duo E6600 vs E8400

Why is the E6600 more expensive then the E8400 as seen on Newegg E6600 E8400
Is the conroe core really that much better then Wolfdale. I would think that Wolfdale would be a better because it's a 45nm fabrication vs Conroe which is 60nm (I think. I could be wrong) The smaller the die size the less heat you have which in theory leads to a better overclock. Do I have this all mixed up? Help me out here because I'm considering selling my E6600 for the E8400

Hi there.
The E8400 is indeed better then the E6600. Like you said, the E8400 is newer, with newer technology, and is 20% faster then 65nm cores.
Basically the reason why it's so expensive, it is the same idea as DDR vs DDR2. Older technology, less of a supply, less of a demand really.

If your looking to move to the E8400, check out the Xeon 3110. It's the same thing as the E8400, but it seems the xeons are able to clock better, and you can find them cheaper..

E8400 for $ $199

Same thing, but with Xeon slapped on it instead, $187

Got my original post messed up. The E6600 is more expensive then the E8400. Fixed in my original.

I didn't realize the E3110 was the same as the E8400 just binned differently. Very nice find. thanks

Time to dump my E6600

Yeah, I kind of gathered that.

It's more expensive because there is less of a demand for them, and they are not producing E6600 any more.
