i got lucky and got my 3800+ X2 from NewEgg a few months back for around 50-60$ new... so if your looking ... I would look to keep your price down for a dual core AMD..
Try AnandTech as well.. they have a good Traders/Forum ...

Operton is the chips AMD uses in their servers. The Athlon series is aimed towards desktops.. |

The Opterons generally have a larger 1MB L2 cache and are run slower than the cores are capable of to increase stability in a server system. The Opterons are overclocking beasts too.

my Athlon 64 x2 3800+ has a decent overclocking ability...
I got a 20% overclock from just the FSB .. running my 3800 @ 4600 speeds.. 2.0 to 2.4ghz
not bad for a 60$ cpu |

OPTERONS are simply awsome dual core CPUs im running a 175 overclocked to 3.1 right now with only 1.31vcore , important not to get sucked into the AM2 "trap" a decent 939 sytem will preform just as well as any am2 system will in real time applications..I have a 4000+ San Deigo {single core} right now in my folding rig overclocked to 3.0 , The 4000+ will run any game out there with a decent GPU untill games start to supprt dual core tech..If you cant find a decent price for a dual core {Opteron or 4400+ at least} id say go wth the 4000
