I have a new build and i put 4 gigs of ram in it but i think all 4 gigs arent being red. when i go to my pc properties it says this
Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Quad CPU
q6600 @ 2.40GHz
2.40 GHz, 2.00 GB of RAM
if im reading this correctly the computer is only reading half my ram, i have windows xp and sp3

Guessing you know that a 32 bit operating system maxes out at about 3.2 gigs...Meaning it can't use 4 gigs...
Have you tried the ram sticks two at a time and or any other combination?

Gig rather.
Watch your POST screen and you can tell if all of that ram is being detected. You can also pause the POST screen with pause/break.
Although Steve is correct in that a 32 bit os cannot utilize that much ram you should be able to discover in your bios or on that post screen what is being detected. |

your post screen is the screen that comes up when you first hit the power button. The amount of ram should scroll by. There's also a message that says "hit f1 for setup". They key may vary (f1, esc, del..) but the message should say something like that. Hitting that key should take you to the bios where you can get the info as well! |
