Just built a while ago a new computer. Here are the specs.
Intel Q6600 (G0)
2 GB G.Skill DDR2/800
ABit IP-35-E
Evga NVidia 9600gt 512Mb SSC edition
650 Watt Corsair PSU
Antec P182 case
I think I am getting some strange reads on the core temps. This is @ 2.5 GHz, 9x multi, 1.2500v. Full Load running 4x Prime95 Small FFT(Max processor torture).
Core0 = 66C
Core1 = 64C
Core2 = 68C
Core3 = 68C
Is it normal to have such unbalanced core temps? I Idle at 34-35 across all. Even at 2.3(and4), I get pretty much the same temps. Low voltage change, I know my voltage is okay(its stock still). It is rock solid, the temps are after 24 hrs of Prime95. My ventilation is great. I have 4 120mm fans blowing, 1 exhaust above the CPU(top of case), 1 standard vent on back, one mid-case up fron intake, and one blowing across my psu as an exhaust. All are 120mm fans.
After some googling, I think It may be my retardedness ion installing the cooler. I will admit, it was my first LGA775 processor install. The push-pins freaked me out and I thought I was going to break my mobo. So maybe its uneven. Any other ideas? People seem to be able to get this beast up to at least 2.8 stock air just fine . . . . whats wrong with mine? |

What do you mean unbalanced?
That seems perfectly normal to me for load temps
rarely, if ever, will all cores be "matched"
if your heatsink was ajar, or uneven, youd have MUCH higher temps overall |

Thats a 4 degree disparity! Why the disparity between the 4 cores? If I want to go higher, How much is "too hot" for the Q6600?

The Q6600 on my Dell factory build is 44 load 40 idle, 60's sounds hot to me, I would freak and begin tearing my dell apart to get to the Cpu. Good luck finding out what's too hot, I would like to know myself. So if you find out please post it.
Oh and this probably won't do much good to mention, but I found this video http://youtube.com/watch?v=fRRWbQUqW1Y&feature=related he says that for the Q6600 or quad cores to spread thermal grease out more when applying(not apply more but spread it out more). Whether or not this is true I would like to know this as well.

That's a little warm dude. But, not over the limit. 70°c is the warmest you ever want to see one of your cores, but more then likely instability will hit before that high of a temp will.
But on 1.25volts, you should not be hitting that high of temps. What HSF do you have on it?
How did you apply the thermal paste? |

Mines a Kentfield overclocked by Ntune to 2.8 GHZ voltage at 1.4. Ntunes the only thing I use to overclock all my specs but my GPU. At stock it came at 2.4. |

How did you apply the thermal paste? | Yeah, it seems funny. I am using the stock HSF that came with it, stock thermal pad as well. I may have brushed the pad in installing it( as in a small touch, but cant remember). I am thinking about re-seating the HSF, but I am dreading it since Ill have to do major surgery in removing the mobo so I don't break it installing that sucker. Should I re-grease as well?
Lasher - thats some high voltage - won't that damage your CPU? I thought the threshold was 1.3700?
edit-pondering my own question, I should re0grease if there is any thought as to my negligence in installing the HSF with the transfer pad thing.

Really I didn't know I was wondering where to set it. Maybe thats why it would just crash for no apparent reason, I though it was the memory. |

Tha max you want to run the Quad on air is 1.5v. Anything more I'd have H20 on it.
Your safe in the 1.4 area.
And dude, I'd reapply thermal paste, and see where that takes you. But, I myself think you just won't be able to OC on the stock cooler. They just are not meant to take the extra heat your OC chip is putting out.
But clean off the old gunk with alcohol, then reapply some new stuff. There are a ton of different methods to applying paste, I myself just use a grain of rice sized dot in the middle of the chip. It's always worked for me. |
