Ram and 64bit xp

ok, so i have 4gb of ram(2 2gb sticks), 680i xfx mobo, 500gb hard drive, e-geforce 8800gt, core 2 quad q6600.
i was running 32 bit version of windows xp, and it only read 2gb of my ram, so i upgraded to a 64bit version of windows xp and it still reads 2gb, i thought the new windows wouldve solved the problem but aparently not.
ne help?

At a quick glance it would appear that one of the sticks could be duff...

AFAIK, even in 32b XP it should have shown up more than the 2 GB you've stated. The fact that it was only showing 2 GB would (to me) point to one of the sticks either being faulty or not inserted fully/properly...

Make sure both sticks are correctly seated, and in the correct slots (For Dual Channel)

If you want to test if 1 stick is defective: Test one stick at a time in the PC.

In the 32-bit OS, around 3.25GB should be available. 4GB in 64-bit.

First off please show some patience, 2hrs on a none critical thread we ask that you wait at least 24hrs before bumping a thread.

Second, as Nude said even in 32 bit you should see more than 2gigs. Do both sticks show in the bios? Have you pulled one or the either to check that they are both working?

well I guess in one way they did their job
After they replaced your memory, the OS was reading the amount of memory you had in the box correctly
