phenom/MB compatibility question

Will the Phenom chip work on an Asus M2NE-sli?

edit; in other words, AM2+ chip on standard AM2 MB.

No, it doesn't appear that it will work with that board.

See, that's what I was thinking. I get conflicting information. Check this out from wikipedia;

"AMD confirmed that AM2 processors will work in AM2+ motherboards and AM2+ processors will work on AM2 motherboards. However, due to the lack of support of HyperTransport 3.0 and separated power planes in Socket AM2 motherboards, AM2+ chips will be limited to the specifications of Socket AM2 (HyperTransport 2.0 at the speed of 1 GHz, one power plane for both Cores and IMC). AM2 chips will not benefit from faster HyperTransport and separated power planes on AM2+ motherboards as they do not support them, AM2+ motherboard then fall back to compatibility mode using AM2 specifications."

So my next question is ASSUMING that it will work, but with these limitations, how much added benefit would there be tot he Phenom x4 9550 over the 5200+ X2 that I have in there now?

I believe that is referring to the new BE models, and not so much the Phenoms.
But if that is talking about Phenoms, really I don't think you would gain a whole lot. If the hypertransport is crippled, that's really the largest gain you would see there.

I have also read other places that you just need to do a BIOS update, and then it will be supported. But when I looked at the docs for the BIOS update, it only mentioned added support for BE models, not Phenoms. So really, I don't know.. lol
It's quite confusing...
