DDR Memory Problem

Hi,
I just bought a stick of memory DDR 3200 400 MHZ. I have a motherboard-P4GV-La (guppy).
When I plug it in it, the pc starts beeping and nothing loads up.
My old memory stick is a 256 mb 2700.
I tried updating the bios but didn't find any new updates for the motherboard.

Is there anything I can do to make this memory work on my pc?
thank you

In your BIOS, do you have options to set the speed of the RAM. Most of the newer boards have it, I know lots of older boards didn't have that feature though.

I tried going into the Bios, but couldn't move around in there for some reason. I will try again.
I bought the pc in '05, so it is some what of an older motherboard + bios.
I tried updating it, but couldn't find any updates.
