Problems upgrading PC133 SDRAM

I hope you can help

I have a PC with 256Mb SDRAM PC133 which runs slowly. I checked with the manufacturer and the machine can cope with 2Gb of Ram. I bought and installed 2 X 512Mb of Ram. When the machine starts up the Bios says there is 1GB of Ram. Windows starts and is just about to display the login page when the machine reboots. I have tried it with one 512Mb it does the same. If I put the original ram chip the machine and windows starts with no problems

Thanks in advance
Al

Sound like you might have a bad RAM module. Try running Memtest86 and see if you get any errors.
