Dell XPS 720 Dell 680i EVGA 8800 GT Q6600 750 Watt PSU As for the ram I currently have 4 GB altogether but 2 sets of pairs. Both sets are Corsair Dominator CM2X1024-8500C5D, but one set shipped with the PC overclocked at 1066, and I purchased the other set from bestbuy online. At the time of purchasing the other set I believed that I would be able to install both pairs and I would have 4 GBs of ram at 1066MHZ. But that wasn't the case, as soon as I installed the 2nd pair I was automatically set to 800 mhz. And the overclock was like nullified or voided and I couldn't go back to 1066 when I uninstalled the purchased 2gbs. So can you members of techimo help me decide on a 4 gb kit that will let me go at 1066Mhz speeds please? 800MHZ is fine if my budget can't afford it, as long as it is a 4gb kit. And My budget=$100 for this upgrade. |

1 of 2 options, put them all back in your system and then go into your bios and manually set your ram speed to 1066. If that doesnt work then try the original ram only installed in your system and again manually select the 1066 speed in the bios.

| Yes they will, but I have to take one set out and turn my bios option EPP to on(which is the only ram option I have besides 1T and 2T) I think the sets are named the same but their EPP profiles run at different voltages, for example; set 1's EPP profile runs at 2.1v and set2's run at 2.150. The 800MHZ profile is 1.8v for both sets.
Its just when I am playing games like Oblivion, heres an example of my performance Newegg.com - GET MAXIMUM GAMING PERFORMANCE WITH CORSAIR™ 4GB MEMORY
Edit: oh I'm like the guy on the left. So even with EPP on the ram automatically goes to the lower settings which match, 1.8v profile in my case.

Call Dell? They won't sell me the matching set that came with my system, and their telling me I should've never purchased the other set in the first place. I have tried sooo many times to get that matching set, but they were always either out of stock or they would send me a totally different set. This is the other set I bought I thought would match the set that came with my system. Corsair - Dominator 2-Pack 1GB DDR2 SDRAM Desktop Memory - TWIN2X2048-8500C5D I bought that set here at that price. Look at the price man! At the time Dell wanted more and they still want even more to pull a matching set from a fresh system.
Heres another option, but of course I wouldn't call dell about it.
My warranty is good for another year and I know it might be immorral somehow, but if I say my pair quit working I know they'll send me the matching pair and they will than want me to return the broken set. Do you guys think they'll notice if I stick my bestbuy ram in there? Seriously they are the same part, just a little different in the EPP profile 2.150v vs. 2.2V.(best buy ram=higher voltage) I mean what is the worst that could happen?
Edit: Oh yes they look the same too.

Lasher, I think they will notice. That have serial numbers on every part that comes in and goes out at dell. The worst that will happen is they will charge you full price for the replacement RAM.
It's dishonest also. I myself would just fork out money for a new set all together. |
