That looks fine, but I'd stick with the mobo/cpu I linked to or the mobo electric linked to.

It is also just a bit cheaper at newegg for that mobo plus the cpu I linked to (which is faster than the X2 3800+ and uses less power).
Newegg.com - ASUS M2N-SLI AM2 NVIDIA nForce 560 SLI MCP ATX AMD Motherboard - AMD Motherboards

As for updating in late 09, it is possible, but if you want a new cpu you'll probably need a new motherboard as well (and possibly new ram). Intel is moving to all DDR3 late this year with their new cpu's, and AMD will probably do the same thing next spring/summer, so unless a mobo happens to have DDR2 support at that time and supports the new cpu's you'll need new ram as well.

Upgrading is just a hard thing to do with computers after a few years without throwing everything out (and the AM2/LGA775 platform is near EOL). But if you have a SATA hard drive/optical drive those will continue to be supported for years (if you have IDE you'll need an add in card). If you get a PCI-Express video card that'll likely work for another decade or more.

the motherboard I pick comes with the processor.
Motherboard!
Asus M2N-SLI Motherboard - NVIDIA nForce 560 SLI, Socket AM2/AM2+, ATX, Audio, PCI Express, Gigabit LAN, S/PDIF, USB 2.0, Firewire, Serial ATA, RAID
Special features include ASUS EZ DIY: ASUS CrashFree BIOS3, ASUS EX Flash2, ASUS Q-Connector, ASUS Q-Fan 2, and ASUS MyLogo2. For the best SLI graphics solution, order the high-powered, affordably priced Asus M2N-SLI Nforce 560 Socket AM2 motherboard.

- Chipset: Northbridge: NVIDIA nForce 560 SLI MCP
- Front Side Bus: 800/1000MHz (1600/2000 MT/s)
- Processor Interface: Socket AM2 / AM2+
The Processor that comes with is as well!

AMD Athlon 64 X2 3800+ 2.0GHz Socket AM2 OEM Processor
Increase your performance with the AMD Athlon™ 64 X2 dual core processor. Work or play with multiple programs without any stalling or waiting. Dual-core technology is like having two processors, and two working together is better and faster than one working alone.

- Socket: AM2
- Front Side Bus: 1000MHz (2000 MT/s)
- Cache: 2 x 512KB

and If i was to buy these not in a bundle I be looking at $168.99

Yes, it comes with a slower processor than the one I linked to and is altogether more expensive than the same motherboard at newegg plus the cpu I linked to.
