i got lucky! sorta :(

ok i just lucked out like none other today i recived a AMD 4400/Nvidia 7800GTX/3 gigs OCZ/ 1T of HD space. for only 150 bucks

ok.. heres 1 problem, i need a heat sink.. the orignal owner has watercooling on it so the watercooling block is still attached.. What i'm looking for is a good air heat sink that comes with a bracket that i can attach to the motherboard since the oringal one was taken out and watercooling kits are way over my price range.

iv found some on newegg but it doesnt look as if it would fit my board
Newegg.com - ASUS A8N-SLI Deluxe 939 NVIDIA nForce4 SLI ATX AMD Motherboard - AMD Motherboards

what can you guys find?

I don't think I've ever seen an aftermarket heatsink/fan that came with the retention bracket, fo any CPU platform.

Best bet for you is to hit up the tech-trader forums and try to find one, maybe off a dead mobo.

Alternately, you can get something that doesn't use the stock retnetion bracket, something that bolts down on its own, like a Big Typhoon or the like.

I can dig up a link for something like that. Gimme a sec....

Newegg.com - ZALMAN CNPS7000B-ALCU 92mm 2 Ball Cooling Fan - CPU Fans & Heatsinks

That's an awesome cooler, btw. You might find something cheaper, but this one is damn good.

I think that big black one with the hole in the center is, yes.

The instructions that should come with it are very expletive and detailed. The way you attatch it, IIRC, is those two little brass-looking thumb-screws bolt from the top side of the board into the black backplate. Then, (if you look at the picture of the unit up-side-down you see the mounting holes on the unit), you screw the heatsink to the brass thumb screws.

EDIT: This stye of heatsink, like many others out there, does not use the 'stock' retention bracket and would require its, (the stock retention brackets), removal before installing it, (the Zalman).

Yeah i'll be getting that one then. i was reading alot of reviews about people moving there comps and the heatsink coming loose and messin up. but it doesnt bother me because i dont do hardcore lanning counter-strike like i did back in HS/JR high so my computer stays pretty put.. Thank you for taking your time and finding that heatsink for me ill be getting it.

The Zalman is a great cooler. I have two here, a CNPS7000B-Cu LED and a CNPS7700-ALCU. They mount solidly and you will have no worries about that thing coming off. They are quiet too.

Here's the page for the ZALMAN CNPS7700-ALCU. They have a little video that shows how they are mounted.
