| AMD Phenom x4 9850BE Ganged or Unganged
For general purpose which is better, ganged mode or unganged mode and which is better for gaming/overclocking?

Long story short, ganged treats the memory subsystem as a single 128-bit bus, while unganged treats the memory subsystem as dual independent 64-bit buses.
Ganged favors some single-threaded software, but AMD generally recommends unganged for typical modern system configurations, especially if you are commonly multitasking multiple applications.

Thanks, will change the setting when i get home. Does it have any effect on how well it will overclock the processor? |

Probably not much of a difference, if any. Gang versus unganged is more about the memory access model being used. |

Since there is no FSB on the AMD processors, should i really even bother overclocking with anything other than the Multiplier? |

There is still a shared bus rate, which you can essentially consider the equivalent of a FSB from an overclocking perspective. The difference is you also get to consider a memory divider, HyperTransport multiplier, etc.
With that said, if you want to overclock for a moderate performance bump and less hassle, then yes, you could opt to simply bump the processor multipler since the 9850BE is an unlocked processor. |

What would be the best performance boost overall on my setup? |

Overclocking the K8/K10 platform is a balancing act of raw processing power versus system bandwidth. Since you have an unlocked processor, you can try dropping the multiplier, finding the peak attainable bus rate, then increasing the multiplier until you find a stable core overclock.
However, as previously noted, the AMD64 architecture incurs other considerations beyond bus rate, processor multiplier, and voltages. You will also need to weigh the memory divider, HT multiplier, etc. into the process. |
