24+4 pin or 24+8 pin?

Here's the board
Newegg.com - ASRock A780GXE/128M AM2+/AM2 AMD 780G ATX AMD Motherboard - AMD Motherboards

I notice that there is a spot for an additional 8 pin for power. Will a 24+4 pin PS work with this or must it have the 24+8?

Thanks in advance.

24+4 should work fine, notice the other 4 pins are capped off?

from what I understand the extra 4 pins are more or less for higher end CPU's to give more power to. or so I was told... so depending on the CPU you might or might now want to use it...

but it should still be fine with the 24+4 pin PSU's.

Ok, so I might or might not need it depending on CPU?

I appreciate the response but I'm still at square one.

This might get you out of square one... lol

6" Black Sleeved P4 4-pin to 8-pin EPS Cable Adapter

I've used it on a RioWorks dual Opteron board with no issues...

At $6.99, it's definitely cheaper than buying a power supply with the 8 pin connector...

If you don't use an Opeteron, and just use a Phenom/Athlon X2, then you should be fine with the 4 pin.
