| The Common Cold -cough- RAM QUESTION (?)
Alright so I bought some RAM the other day.
Same speed.. same make RAM I had in my computer before hand.
I now have 4GIGs and running with Windows Vista..
Problem is, only the System(in Control Panel) says I have 4GIGS.
dxdiag from the run file doesnt display I have 4092MB
and neither does Applications or things online that update
what I have in my computer
(ex: uploading your rig information on XFIRE.
It turned out having it say it found only 2GIGS)
I checked my mobo to see if the RAM was fully in there,
and it is. (clearly since SYSTEM says it I guess)
I also find no difference in performance of any sort,
games, applications, the computer speed in general, etc.
Anything I might be doing wrong ?
Thanks,
Joe. |

What does dxdiag claim you have?
What version of windows vista are you running? If it's not 64bit it won't use more than a little over 3gigs of ram

Windows Vista Black Edition™ 2009 (6.0, Build 6001) Service Pack 1 (6001.vistasp1_gdr.080917-1612)
Its a sorta black market Vista.
Its the same as Vista itself.. just it doesn't have some
updates that would jeopardize it..
Hard to explain if you don't know,
its a story for another time.
But it is 32bit I believe.
Even if its not 64bit and can only pick out 3 GIGS..
Its says I have 4 according to SYSTEM on the control panel.
And dxdiag says I have 2GIGs.

Well maybe the fact that it is an illegally distributed copy has some bearing on the issue. Sorry, expect no further help as this forum has a strong stance against any and all forms of piracy. |

Its not piracy.
And I didn't purchase this "illegal operating system"
If it makes you feel any better. I have my stuff paritioned.
And I have this, regular vista, and XP.
And yes before you ask, I have checked to
see if there was a difference on either OS but there
isn't.
Please set aside the fact that I have a knock off of vista.
Since I have XP and Vista itself(THE REAL VISTA)
.. I don't see why it would matter.
And if your going to ask why I even have the thing in the first place,
its because I was just trying it out, curious.
All it is, is a tweaked version of vista to make it more easier
to maneuver around it. There is just new features added.
Again, hard to explain.
So if you don't mind, do you have any other solutions for this problem
I'm having with my RAM ? |

OCZ High Performance DDR2 800Mhz (x2)
and the ones I had in before-hand.. were OCZ as well..
I'm not sure if its that same 'model' but I do know they
are the same speeds. |
