| Please help I have a dell Optiplex Desktop GX280 with a very very loud cpu fan. When I turn on it gives amber light but no boot, just the fan starts going mad. I have
onboard graphics card. I have • Disconnected all drives and left only motherboard connected,
• Reset bios – no luck The only thing is when I take the cpu out and leave cpu fan connected then the fan works fine (no loud noise) so I think it is not the fan – but the cpu or a the motherboard / mother board sensor. I would really appreciate some help as I don’t have a clue what it could be. I don’t get any beeps from the motherboard at all on boot-up with cpu or without. Motherboard power light goes on inside case. Please please any advise |

the fan running at high speed tells me it is a Heat issue. make sure the fan and heat sink are not full of dust.
the back side of the computer will have 4 lights abcd that light up amber or green. all green is good.
look up the manual on dells site it has a chart for what the color codes mean.

The amber light on the power switch indicates a power supply failure. If you tell me which configuration you have, I can look it up. The larger models use an ATX PSU.
Here are the replacement instructions: Documentation |

My Dell Precsion had the same problem, CPU fan running wild and the Amber light. Dell Tech support said it was either a MB or PS problem, more likely the MB. I replaced it with a used MB I got off the internet and it's back working. I'm using the same CPU, heatsink and fan. The system does run hot though, 60C. |
