I'm with Rich, we really don't know anything except what AMD's told us.
I don't see why they are comparing there new cpu with the core 2, the i7 is out already why not put it up against that?!
Personally i don't really care for AMD's processors, i usually stick with intel, but what i'm more interested in is Are they releasing a new chipset for this CPU, and what this brings for ATI's graphics processor since AMD and ATI are joined.
Hoping to see something like the "HD 5870 X4"....just an idea.
On another note, the overclocking capabilities are not that different from the i7, someone posted that he OC'ed his i7 to 4ghz on aircooled easily. |

They're probably comparing it to the core 2 cause its still very popular compared to the i7 which is most likely because of the price difference. |

I can see the idea of comparing the phenom to the core 2 because its popular, but i don't see this processor being outrageously cheap compared to the i7, maybe a few bucks. The farthest back i can remember i've never seen a processor lower than 300 dollars on there release date.
Phenom II... Maybe around $270-$280, anything lower, i would have to see it to believe it.
I'm more interested about the other advances, faster CPU is good an all but, will it support tri-channel? will it have a new socket? new chipset? will it support both SLI and crossfire natively. It was really the X58 chipset that sold me on buying an i7, i'm curious as to the rest of AMD's arsenal. |

But then you could also say why don't they compare to the new Core 2 Quads? Again I think its going to boil down to a wait and see. I'm just finding it hard to believe we aren't seeing a ton more info out there. Coo\uld be they are keeping tight wraps on it so they don't over build expectations like they've done before. Who knows.
AM2+/AM3 - yeah they are supposed to be backwards compatible with some of the older boards minus the DDR3 support. Its not clear if that'll be all the Pii's or just the first releases. I'd like to see what the performance difference is.

Just got off the phone with a friend who does reviews from a review site, i wont disclose the site on regular message, i might on a PM. he told me that the Phenom II 940 clock for clock directly competes with the Q9550 and when overclocked to 4.0Ghz, it competes pretty well with the i7 920.

That's about what I expected, which again, is nothing to get terribly excited about. AMD's latest and greatest is only now able to compete with Intel's last generation hardware.

still a major improvement over what the original phenom was. And the Yorkfields are still pretty powerful and this is based of the AM2+ version of the chip. |

Yeah, but is an improvement all that exciting? Isn't it expected from a new product? |
