regardless of that, even if intel counters with lower prices on the Q9550, AMD would more than likely cut their prices to match that of what intel did, which we all win in that scenario.

The only reason AMD is still around is because Intel lets them to avoid law suits. So instead of completely destroying them with price cuts, they simply lower their prices to the point where they squeeze AMD to the point where they're barely making enough to cover costs. This unfortunately doesn't leave much $$$ for any heavy R&D for a breakthrough product, which is what they need to be able to sell their CPU's above Intel's price, and for some profit. In essence, they need another Athlon caliber breakthrough.

If they got another one of those intel would probably file some lawsuits though. |

New Overclocking record??
The E8600's have gone well past that. There have been E8500's that have too.
I don't understand, how is that a record? Record for AMD?
Anywho, I think this is a good step for AMD (although it should have happened a over 1/2 a year ago) but I don't see how Intel has anything to fear here. The cheapest I7 is going for ~$260, if AMD's top chip is more then that, I believe they aren't gonna sell many of these. And I think it's a little unfair to factor in OCing on one chip, but not the other. OC to OC, I still have my money on Intel.
But again, AMD is getting a start, between the new HD48xx series, and these new chips (given price points of course) they may get back on their feet again.
But IMO, Intel still has nothing to worry about. |
