Hard Core Overclock

Alright i need some smart people who can help me get past this issue. I am going to pin mod my T5200 on my lappy to run at 667 FSB-> 2000mhz. However it seems on intel chipsets the multiplier is locked to 6x whenever windows or linux is completely booted. How can i get around this little problem? bios edit?

I'm not really sure what you could do to the BIOS that would unlock the multi. Maybe if you got something like clockgen that may help?

Well considering it is a mobile processor it is unlocked from 6-12x However something with the chipset locks it at the low end whenever the bsel mod is done. Note that the multi works fine on ati chipsets. Also clockgen causes the hdd to stop responding.

Hmm..
I honestly have no idea then. My OCing has mainly been done on desktops. I've never had the gonads to try to OC a lappy yet.
Good luck

In case anyone is curious this relates to a previous post Overclock HP Pavillion I945PM- Intel C2D.

I've gotta say pin mods and oc'ing a lappy takes balls, they really aren't made for that kind of crap. That said, just looking at a few Google hits I don't really see a way around it. I saw someone else mention trying this but they said its pretty much hit and miss and its all on having the rightt mobo and right bios to begin with.

never heard of that happening. I didn't think clockgen could do anything to the hdd. What I think is probably happening there is that you are overloading the mobo and that is what is causing you hdd to lock up.

No, it's upping his PCI bus speed, and that is what HDD's run off of. You can corrupt your HDD if you OC the PCI bus to much.

or if you know anything about how a BIOS is written, you could try and modify a bios file, maybe?

I wish i did know something... i did find this however.... http://i361.photobucket.com/albums/o...uspeedbios.jpg

unfortunately i have no idea how to change it, or what it means exactly

Edit: i want to say that i did have the pin mod working for a short time... well depends on your definition of working... the bios read it as 2 ghz but of course it was locked down at 6x in windows. however apparently fingernail polish doesnt work so well and when i restarted bios redected it at its original 1600 lol
