Question
How do I find out what RAM I have ?

I want to buy more RAM which is compatable with the one x 1GB that I already have.

On the RAM itself is written :
PNY Technologies 1 GB DDR2 DIMM 64AOTFTHE8G17

From the system analysis software I ran, I find out :
DIMM1: PNY Tech. 1 GB DDR2-667 DDR2 SDRAM
(5-5-5-15 @ 333 MHz) (4-4-4-12 @ 266 MHz) (3-3-3-9 @ 200 MHz)

So, I'm guessing that mine is 333 Mhz then ?

The RAM i'm looking at to buy says PC-5300 or PC2-6400, and I dont know what mine is , or if it's even relevant.
and the lowest speed I can find is 667 Mhz.

There seems to be a ridiculous number of specs for one component !

Can anyone advise ??

Your PNY Tech. memory is PC2-5300 DDR2-667 which runs on a 333 MHz bus. So you'll need another stick of PC2-5300 to match your current one.

There are quite a few numbers involved and it can get confusing at times.

Thanks !

Thanks heaps for that !

Can I ask, which part of the info tells me that it's a PC2-5300 ?

and I presume it doesn't matter what speed I get ?
667 Mhz or 800 Mhz

cheers.

A quick Google search finds that DDR2-667 is PC2-5300.

In all reality, it really doesn't matter if you get the faster memory. The motherboard will downclock it to run at the same speed as the slower memory module.

Here's a nifty little program that will tell you everything you need to know about your installed memory: CPU-Z
