What will give better performance here?

My Girlfriend's HP Computer runs Windows Media Center Edition.

I read up on the motherboard. It has 4 memory slots and can be used in Dual Channel or Single Channel mode. It came with 2 sticks of PC3200 512MB each in Dual Channel mode.

I have another stick of 512MB sitting here.

I am told Dual Channel mode will give better performance and I should use it, but I want to know what is better:

1 - Having 1GB memory in dual channel mode or
2 - Having 1.5GB memory in single channel mode?

I don't have the money right now to purchase any more memory, but I'd like to use it if it'll be better.

I doubt you will see any difference, have you tried it and see if you do notice?

What is the computer used for?
