First OC Build
Hello,
I am trying to build a new computer and had an intel i7 build all ready to go and ordered. But the wife decided that was too much for a computer. So I am having to go with an alternative route. I want it to be able to run games well but I am by no means a gaming elitist or computer genius. This is what I came up with. It must include everything but the monitor and software for under 800 shipped. This combo of parts from newegg comes to 799 to the door. Please give me any input or let me know if something is not compatible. Thanks

Where you from ( city/state )? May be able to get you some things local, cheaper. Micro Center has some good i7 deals, but you have to enter a store to get them ( cheaper store ) take wifey for a little get away if it's close but not quite the town you are in, sneak out, get flowers in an i7 vase or oh look, a Micro Center I've heard of those lets stop.
Also for cases and ps's, the heavier things, you may pay a buck or 2 more for the item, but save 30-40 on shipping from a closer site or local. I know of some in the NE USA but others may be able to help in other locations.

Firstly a different PSU Newegg.com - OCZ StealthXStream OCZ400SXS 400W ATX12V Active PFC Power Supply - Power Supplies
400W is enough.
Can you post links to the parts? If yes, might be able to cut down to get you a better cpu.

If possible get a caviar black.

AMD II x2
I was thinking of the x2 core because from what I have read it is not that hard to unlock the other 2 cores and overclock it. Is the x3 triple core easier and faster? There is only a 20 dollar difference.

Well the deal about that is it's not always guaranteed that's it's gonna unlock and work properly.
I do however believe that in the end (assuming they both unlock) it's not gonna matter. I personally would probably go for the tri core, just in case the last core doesn't work for whatever reason, you still have a tri core. If the dual doesn't unlock, your left with a dual core.
Also I'd swap the IDE drive for a Sata drive. Definitely get a different power supply.
I'd probably go for this one
Newegg.com - OCZ ModXStream Pro OCZ500MXSP 500W ATX12V V2.2 / EPS12V SLI Certified CrossFire Ready 80 PLUS Certified Modular Active PFC Power Supply compatible with core i7 - Power Supplies
Otherwise looks good.

I agree with the others.
But to also save some money, since you said you're no gaming elite, you really don't need to spend as much on a gaming keyboard and gaming mouse.
