| windows will not detect overclock
hi guys sorry about the long thread but i am confused,
i just bought a new motherboard, MSI P43 NEO-f and i am trying to overclock the cpu CORE2DUO E6300, i am quite new to overclocking so i would appreciate any help you could possibly give me.
now my problem is this as i said i am trying to over clock the cpu but i am having some probs in doing so, my BIOS shows that the cpu is overclocked from the original FSB freq of 266mhz to 333mhz on a multiplier of 7 giving me 2333mhz from the original 1860mhz see first attached image,
this is ok except windows will not show that there is any variation in the cpu's clock speed and cpuid shows a slight increase but nothing like the BIOS reads, see next two images,
have i missed something in the bios which prevents windows seeing the overclock, also any advice on overclocking would be gratefully received
i have attached some images of my bios with the settings as they are at the moment with the increase i allegedly have
many thanks
glen
EDIT: i should mention that there are some jumpers on the motherboard which i have set to increase the FSB from 266mhz to 333mhz

Do this. First download these: Prime95 (32bit) - 25.8 Download - EXTREME Overclocking
and CPUID
First start up CPU-z, take note of the speeds it shows.(under idle)
then start up prime, start a load test on your CPU, and see if CPU-z shows the speeds increasing.
If so, then there are intel power saving features enabled still, which will down clock your CPU when not under load. If your under load, it'll jump up to the setting you have set in your bios.
To disable, find the options for "Intel speedstep" and "CE1" disable those, and see if that fixes it.
EDIT:
I see you have CPU-z already, sorry.. still get prime though and test.)
EDIT II:
I see the option for EIST in your bios, disable that, that's speedstep

you should check in the bios if a setting called Intel Speedstep is turned on.
If it is, disable it, it is something that can change your cpu speed according to workload.

ok cool tried that and as you can see from the pic it has worked while i was in there i increased the FSB to 366mhz and still stable i.e. it did not crash on boot but i read that someone got the E6300 to 3.0ghz or higher how can i achieve this please
the screenshots in my first post show all the options in my bios that have any relevance to oc'ing which do i need to adjust to get the most out of my cpu
i have a arctic cooling freezer xtreme so cooling should not be a worry |

could you post another CPU-z shot now, with the OC showing up?
Pretty much on those chips around 2.8Ghz or so your gonna have to raise your v-core. I'd start with 1.4v, and work from there. (temps allowing of course)
also might have to up your NB volts slightly, and make sure your ram stays around 800Mhz, you only wanna OC one at a time, so that way if it BSOD's on you, you know the culprit. |

sorry whats NB voltage, do you mean all the voltages other than the cpu voltage |

ok if i bothered to look around my bios properly i would have seen that the voltages go red when you are no longer within a safe boundary and remain white when safe so i have maxed them all to just before they go red and increased the FSB to 400mhz and this is what i got see pic |

The pic in post 8?
You can't always go by the voltage the motherboard thinks it should be at, so be careful. But IMO heat is more dangerous then voltages. (granted you not like 2volts over what your supposed to be)
I know those chips can do a decent OC. My dual core box here has a E6320, basically same chip as yours but with more L2, and I've done 3.1Ghz without voltage bump, and 3.6Ghz with voltage bump on a P35 board. Those P43 are supposed to clock the same if not better. (also it's a MSI P35 neo-F2, which will be similar to yours.) |
