| Tbird 900 or Tbird 1.4
I have a Tbird 900 on a Abit kt7a mobo w/256 meg PC133 ram. I recently learned that I am only using the ram at pc100 speeds since the FSB of my chip is 200 mhz (D'oh). So do you think it would be worth it to get a 1.4 chip with uses a 266 FSB which would not only speed up the system, but the ram speed as well. The cost is about 90.oo on pricewatch for this chip. But will the speed increase be that much? And if so...anyone got a 1.4 chip for sale
For those who were about to ask...my mobo is ver 1.0 which does not support the XP chip like ver 1.2 and 1.3 Also I have flashed the bios to the latest version which allows my mobo to use the 1.4 chip.

Since you have a 200FSB chip and PC-133 memory, why not try overclocking it? KT7A has PCI and AGP dividers to keep those devices at standard specs... I have 200FSB T-Bird 1Ghz chip which I had overclocked at 1.4Ghz... Not only did I get the chip 400Mhz faster, but got the FSB bumped up 33Mhz... I unlocked the multiplier and set it at 10.5 and set the external clock speed at 133... However, I have it back to factory speed now since I rarely use this system. Used to be my son's...

1400 run hot, damn hot, but its about 50% faster than the chip you have and thats not taking into consideration that youll bump up the memory speed awsell. Id upgrade it personally, but only if my video card and other components were good aswell |

Thanks for the reply's and advise. To help you help me ( in reponse to the rest of my system ) you can see my webpage ( warning: it's lame ) and view my Specs. http://users.adelphia.net/~jgawler
I have thought about over clocking and may do it once I can afford to screw something up and replace it quickly. |

I've been given the go-ahead to get a TBird 1.4, so I'm happy. But I'm now curious(sp?) whats the difference between the tbird and xp chip? I'll still be gettting the Tbird since my mobo wont accept the xp but just so I know the difference. |
