Ok here goes

i just mounted a 1.8ghz P4 on a MSI 845 ultra
and the motherboard bent when i mounted the heatsink and now the computer wont boot

the intel manual said something about motherboard curvature
so is this normal, did i screw up or is the board DOA

Can't see why a curved circuitboard (mobo) would be an issue, since the CPU socket should stiffen the area around it and thus the mobo would tend to refuse to curve where the socket is soldered in. Unless...... hey, the mobo is not pressing against the case, is it? If so, possibly lethal ouchie for everything.

Methinks the pins of your CPU are not fully inserted into the CPU socket.

That could likely be a lethal ouchie for the processor itself; I can't see how the mobo would be guaranteed hosed, but the possibility exists, IMO.

The standard P4 heatsink retention mechanism puts enough downward force to visibly bend the motherboard. I've noticed a few types of the clips I've seen are now coming with a bottom part that adds some upward force right under the socket to help counteract this. A lot of force holding down your heatsink equals good cooling, but too much force without something other than the mobo to push on could cause some damage.

AMD had their cracking cores, I guess Intel has to worry about motherboard "pop".
