| New cases and cooling for i7?
Didn't know where to put this so it's in here.
Looking to buy 2 cases for the kids. The case is kind of important they are only 5 & 6 years old.
My biggest question is will I be able to put an i7-do in these cases and have a cpu cooler big enough to oc it to 3.2-3.6? I currently have one with a big cooler but have a thermaltake Armour+ case, no space problems.
First case for a 6 year old girl. Pink of course. If there is a better/cheaper/pink case you know of, let me know. Raidmax Aura Pink Case
Second case for a 5 year old boy. Looks neat for him. Auzentech GMC R-4 Bulldozer Case at Xoxide!
Not too worried about much but will I be able to cool the i7? As some know these will be folders too, will the big gpu's fit?
Not going to water cool these, refer to who they are for, don't need the potential headaches.
Thanks for the answers, and check out the store at the links, some good deals. They are going out of business in 4 days.

The bulldozer case might have issues with card lengths (depending on the cards used), if you notice some of the pics, it has almost no space for drive bays behind the mobo.
the drives are mounted in the in that lifting front "dozer blade" thingy and HDD's are screwed in above the RAM sticks there.
its a "neat" looking case for a young boy, but for space, kind of confining at least for GPU's, really long GPU boards.
looks like its just deep enough for a full ATX mobo.
not sure on the depth issue, because it depends on the cooler used, if you mentioned which ones your planning on using, might add some more info to go on.
I know the Xigmatek Dark Knight cooler for I7's, 120mm sized one, just BARELY fits in a Thermaltake Armor case, can't used the 250mm side panel, have to use stock panel with no fan to fit. and the Armor cases are a bit wider than a Standard Full Tower case to begin with, so hard to say unless we knew the coolers to be used.
I would imagine some of the Prolimatech Megahalem and some of the Thermalright TRUE coolers might be quite tall as well.
the Pink case is hard to say too, looks like it might barely fit a tall cooler, judging from width looking at rear of case.
the pink case is nice for girls, but I've always been weary of cases with closed front doors for front air intake.
but thats just me, I prefer a front intake or grill that has free flowing airflow for the intake fans.
for CPU coolers though I'm sure there are some decent ones out there that are lower in height than some of the Top end coolers that should still yield decent operating temps.
JJ, why not i5's for the kiddies, since supposedly some of the others have been saying the new i5 Quads out perform the i7 Quads?
Probably ask some questions about the i5's in the spam chat thread just to be sure. I know a few people have commented about that, but haven't looked much of that up since I don't plan on getting an i5 right now.
a friend of mine online from my gaming clan was just commenting on those same rumors as well the night before last, so there must be some truth to the rumors, at least to some extent.
not sure how cool the i5's run though when OC'd. but i'm sure KK or Aaron might have some info on those.

Rich, was waiting for that kind of reply. Well, I did want to give an i7 in the F@H give away, that got hacked apart though.
My main reason for the i7 is versatility. I have some now, and want everything to be compatable with each other. Any mobo, cpu, gpu, ram, can be used in any system in my house, as most on the F@H thread know, I am not tech. literate. This just means I buy 1 "type" and don't have to worry about compatability issues.
The main reason for asking is the cases are on sale, cheap and want to know if they will fit before I buy them.
And man are there alot of people up at this time, I'm only up because this power plant won't run itself!
@shy, have no idea on coolers, will have to wait till Karma see this. any cooler will be fine, as long as it works to keep the cpu cool.

Read most of the reviews, maybe rephrase my questions. Anyone know of a cooler that might fit ( and work ) for an i7 in these cases?
I know of very few sites to buy stuff from, egg, tigerdirect, xoxiode.
Any pink case ( the pink in the link ) would do fine, saw these cheap for a limited time ( till they go out of business 9-17-09 ) and figured I would ask. The dimensions throw me, it says 8 " nut is that OD, ID, from the mobo face, mobo face to fan? Know some on here do this all the time.
EDIT: Rich, you fold, you would be eligible for an i7 giveaway or whatever we decide to do. We even include mods. |

out of business? Xoxide or the company that makes the case?
If xoxide, its the first I heard of that....
Oh shit!!! it is Xoxide.... Holy freakin crap, I can't believe it, ITS FINALLY HAPPENING!!!
had been wondering for years when they'd finally go under.
they have been good for prices for years, but I stopped ordering from them over a year ago, some of the selection of items hadn't changed much, kept getting in newer niche items, if not just stupid crap... they're give away contests were a joke, mostly piece of crap overstock items, and the way they were conducted were extremely unfair, eventually it became a first come first serve sale thing.
and in the last year, their prices on some parts and cases just haven't been as competitive as other sites.

Thats where I got my TT case, they are 40 miles from me so shipping was way cheap. They have a case for $18 bucks with a 400W ps included. Maybe a case and ps in the giveaway? It is a sad day for the "novelty" end though.
@ Aaron, I am so getting that USB rocket launcher. |

Make sure KK see's these... Intel LGA 1366 CPU Coolers at Xoxide!
might be some good coolers in there for dirt cheap, I've actually got my eye on one this http://www.xoxide.com/vlsystems-mplay202-black-bluevfd.html?Cart=VL%20System%20M-Play%20202%20Plus%20-%20Black^1^31.24
going to place the order in a little bit if I don't find something more useful LOL. |
