Ok the Core i7 is hardly a year old and seeing the results from the Core i5 it seems to be overall better then the i7 yet they still call it the "high end" chip.
Its really pissing me off that i spent so much money and time into my i7 for it to be trumphed in a year.
Maybe what i've been reading doesn't show the whole picture, does anyone know why the i7 is still concidered the high end model or did the i5 just completely overshadow it? |

I7 is still the better CPU. The X58 boards support more bandwidth to the PCIe slots then the P55 chipset (I5 chipset)
Not only that, but it also supports triple channel RAM, and the I5 does not.
So your money is not totally wasted. And the i5 can compete in some benchs, but if your were to fire up a rendering benchmark, you'd see the I7 CPU's pulling away from the i5's. |

Ever bench test i saw showed the i5 either beating or being on par with the i7, only one that destroyed the tests was 965 EE.
I can't find the website i read, i'll post it when i do but the only way i can think how the i7 is still better will probably be its overclocking abilities.
atleast i have the i9 to look forward too |

| AnandTech: i5 / P55 Lab Update - Now with more numbers
In this it shows the I7 920 beating out the i5's in most cases.
Regardless, X58 is the superior chipset and it will always have the upper hand.
And like you mentioned, I'm pretty sure they are developing the I9's for the 1366skt, so that will remain the "enthusiast" platform. |

Core i9 is confirmed for 1366.
The benchmarks i saw i found on http://techreport.com/articles.x/17545. Nearly every test i5 and the i7 8xx beat the 920. I'm going for the anandtech one you posted lol |

Well if you have a E0 stepping 920, then you will wipe the floor with the I5's. So far I've been seeing OC's for the I5's ending up around 4.2Ghz or so, and the E0 920 has that beat in most cases.
But tbh, I'm going to be upgrading to the I5 shortly. Micro Center has the I5 750 for $179, and that's a helluva deal. I don't like that I can only run 1 PCIe slot at 16x, but I'll make due.
At least you've been able to play with your setup for a while already. *shrugs* |

The system I have is still a little too new for me to switch over to the i5 quite yet. Anyway have we heard anything about the i3 yet?

Its crazy that the i5, somethings thats cheap and ment for mainstream can still hit 4.2Ghz.
Karma don't you have a C2Quad that overclocked to 4Ghz? |
