| Which processor for Hp HDX 18t laptop?
Could anyone please tell me which processor would be better for an Hp HDX 18t Premium laptop:
the Intel(R) Core(TM) 2 Duo P8800 (2.66 Ghz, 3Mb L2 Cache, 1066 Mhz FSB)
or
the Intel(R) Core(TM) 2 Quad Q9000 (2.00 Ghz, 6Mb L2 Cache, 1066 Mhz FSB) ?
What would be the pros and cons of each processor?
Which would run cooler?
Thank you ahead of time for any input that anyone can contribute. |

Hi,
I'm not that good at recommending hardware (especially when it is CPU and/or GPU) but the first CPU would operate at a higher rate (2,660 cycles per second, rather than 2,000 cycles per second). Having said that, the latter has a higher Level2 cache - although I'm not sure how this would compare directly against the other....
(sorry if this hasn't been helpful..!)

It will depend on what you are using the laptop for. The dual core will be better for games and apps that don't make use of multi-core. The quad will be better for video editing, encoding and alot of multitasking.
The dual would get my vote, it will probably be cheaper also.
@NLM the only reason the quad has more cashe is because it is just two dual cores stuck together, so they use half the cashe each.

Ah, I didn't spot the QUAD core bit, thought they were both duals.........didn't even notice it until I read your comment about the DUAL core..
(at least I went for the same one that you suggested too...!! ) |

Thanks for the replies.
Does anyone know which processor would run cooler and which one would use less battery power? |

Just going from Aaron's response, I would say that the dual would use less power and may well also be cooler...
If the quad is essentially two duals stuck together, then it would seem sensible that it would consume more power and create more heat... |
